Feed My Starving Children event

Yesterday, the Boston Scientific Manufacturing departments decided to give back this holiday season, and as a group we volunteered our time at Feed My Starving Children.  It was one of the most fun and rewarding things I've done in a long time.  Because there are so many people in mfg, we did 1.5 hour shifts all day.  I think there was a total of 6 shifts that went and donated time.

My group went from 9:30 - 11:30, and there was roughly 100 of us packing food.  All the food we did yesterday went to villages in Kenya, Africa.  The mixture containes chicken, veggies, soy and rice.

The level of enthusiasm and the high energy that was in that warehouse was amazing.  People were yelling, singing and having a great time.  It's also a slight competition....which station can get the most boxes packed.  Station 7 (where I was) packed 21 boxes.  We rocked it.

After we were done, they gave stats on how our shift did, and it was incredible.

Volunteers: 100
Boxes packed: 152
Meaks per box: 216
Kids fed: 32,832
Kids fed for a year: 90

It felt so good to know that I made a difference for starving kids, even if they are so far away.  I would totally go back and do it again, that's how fun and rewarding it was.  I think this time of year (and all year really) all companies should go volunteer their time to help make a difference, whether it's in our community or abroad.
